Competent Mediator Status

All new Bristol Mediation volunteers are required to work towards Competent Mediator Status, which is a practice based qualification. This involves putting together a folder of evidence to show how nationally set standards have been met by the mediator. Bristol Mediation provides the support necessary to help mediators achieve this.

Neighbour Mediation Training

This course takes six days, which are spread over six weeks. It is an intensive practical course that requires participants to join in with group work and role-plays. There is also a written homework element. The course has been accredited by the South West Open College Network, and successful completion will enable participants to begin practice as volunteers for Bristol Mediation.

Other Training

If you or your organisation needs training in mediation and dealing with conflict, Bristol Mediation may be able to provide a course tailored to your needs.

Requirements

We are looking for people with the following qualities:

• An open and tolerant approach to working with people from differing lifestyles.

• An ability to listen, and to show that you are listening.

• An ability to show understanding.

Dates

Bristol Mediation runs training at such times as it needs new volunteers and is able to support their induction. We hope to run a training course in 2008. Dates will be confirmed on this site.
